Michael Vick Signing With Eagles - Where Is The Justice?
Well, unless you've been living under a rock or in a cave somewhere, you've heard that Michael Vick has just signed a two year contract with the Eagles. No, I'm not going to bore you with all the details of the signing and the terms of his contract. You can read that stuff just about anywhere. No, I'm going to take another route with this article...one that may not be popular with a lot of people. However, I think this needs to be said. You may or may not want to read this depending on what side of the fence you're on with this whole thing.
Michael Vick was sent to jail for up to 23 months for running a dog fighting operation. Those are the facts. Vick doesn't deny them and says that he's "sorry" for what he did. Well, yeah, he's sorry all right. Problem is, he's sorry because he got caught and lost out on a lot of money playing NFL football. Let's not give this guy any pats on the back for his remorse. His pocketbook is what's killing him.
But not anymore.
Vick has gotten a second chance. Some would say that he deserves that second chance. But see, here's the problem I have with this whole situation. People who have done things that don't even compare to what Vick has done have been given tougher sentences and, in some cases, have been banned from the sport forever. Some of had their names ruined without a shred of hard evidence. And yet, Vick, who has done one of the most vile things a person could do short of killing another human being, is going to play professional football again.
So I have to ask...where is the justice?
Problem is, this incident is just a microcosm of our whole world. Everyday we hear about people who have committed terrible crimes who either get a slap on the wrist or, when they do come out of prison, get offered another nice cushy multi million dollar job to do something that most of us only dream of doing...without a criminal record.
And you know why it's like this? I'll tell you why? Because these people mean money to the people who hire them...plain and simple. Michael Vick is playing in the NFL again because he's a draw. Fans want to go and see him. Do you think if this was some second string punter that he'd be playing in the NFL again?
Our world revolves around money, like it or not. Those who make it or bring it in for others are the ones who will always get the preferential treatment. That's the it's always been, that's the way it is, and that's the way it always will be.
If you think I am wrong...tell me the next time some big name celebrity gets a slap on the wrist for a crime that would land you and I in jail and ruined for the rest of our lives.
Yes...where IS the justice?
